Major Maintenance work at SJEPL

SJEPL is a 67km six lane asset with 76km of 2 lane service roads and several structures. The asset was substantially completed in the year 2015 and since then there has been no major treatment to its pavement. Hence, there was a need to carry out the major maintenance on the entire stretch of the project.

The major maintenance work involves carrying of both layers of BC and DBM. Out of 134 Km 65 mm Thickness DBM was carried over a length of 40 km. 40 mm thick BC was Provided in 94 Km and 50mm thick BC was provided in 40 Km. Bituminous work was carried out using VG 40 Grade Bitumen from HPCL, Vizag and IOCL, Haldia Refineries.

The project road passes through Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, two important and major cities of Odisha. Approximately 70000 PCUs ply between these cities. Around the same time two world sporting events i.e., FIFA Women’s World Cup and Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 have also taken place in the city of Bhubaneswar. The major maintenance work was carried out under urban traffic conditions and during the world sports events without any discomfort and user inconvenience.

In addition to the above, we have also used innovative materials like glass grid, fiber based modified polymers and fiber based micro surfacing as part of the overlay work.
